Creatrix of Hearth

Ezmarelda Rose

I am passionate about offering inclusive, accessible, and culturally relevant wellbeing services that empower the people I work alongside to navigate their health in a way that resonates with their experiences, needs, and values.

Hearth is my wholehearted offering to community, a home for Earth Art Therapy. Where art becomes ritual, stories are shared, and healing unfolds naturally in relation with ourselves, each other, and the land.

Qualifications

  • Master of Creative Arts Therapy & Counselling

  • Bachelor of Visual Art

  • Diploma of Eco Therapy

Werte, I’m Ezmarelda Rose.

I am an eclectic Visual Artist, Creative Arts Eco Therapist, and Counsellor devoted to cultivating spaces where creativity, country, and community are in connection.

Through the interplay of creative expression and nature-based practices, I support people to build on the relationships they have with their bodies, their stories, and the living world around them. I offer an invitation to remember that nature is medicine offering grounding, curiosity, and joy; whilst art is a mirror that becomes a source of deeper knowing, inspiring people to make meaning and find belonging.

Over nine years, I have facilitated therapeutic, educational, and creative programs for children, youth, and families across diverse communities. My work spans schools, events, community mental health, not-for-profit organisations, and remote Indigenous communities in Australia and Cambodia. I bring experience in youth mentoring and community development, with a focus on supporting neurodiverse, LGBTQIA+, Indigenous, and culturally diverse populations.

What do Art Therapists do?

As an Art Therapist my focus is to explore what emerges through your self-expression, material process, and the engagement you have with your art. Rather than to judge, analyse or interpret your art, I am here more as a humble fellow traveller, walking beside you. Together we can reflect, process your images, and the artwork you create, discovering the insights, and meaning found along the way.

What do Eco Therapists do?

As an Eco Therapist my role is to work alongside nature as co-therapist, honouring the active role nature has in providing a restful and restorative foundation to ground people in themselves, and their environment. Whether that be through walking, exploring, observing wildlife, bush picnics, community gardens, or making art with natural materials, these sensory-rich activities assist people in connecting to their earth bodies with more presence.

Testimonials

“I’ve had the incredible honor of collaborating with Ezmarelda at Waltja, and I cannot recommend her highly enough. Her art therapy program created a warm and nurturing space for Aboriginal women and children from remote communities to openly express their feelings in a calm and heartfelt manner. Ezmarelda's programs have profoundly strengthened Aboriginal Women’s sense of community and self-worth, which is so important in Central Australia, where traditional talk therapy can often feel restricted and faces many challenges.

Ezmarelda possesses an extraordinary talent for tailoring her programs to meet the specific needs of each participant. She is not just highly professional and organised; her ability to manage large groups, especially in community settings, is truly exceptional. I’ve witnessed her firsthand bring joy and light to even the most remote corners of Central Australia, particularly through her inspiring "Queen of the Desert" initiative.

What truely stands out most with Ezmarelda, is her unwavering commitment to empowering young people, especially teenagers. She inspires them to give back to their communities while finding their voice through creative expression. I have seen how her programs uplift young women, encouraging them to share their stories through their artwork, which plays a crucial role in providing the support and encouragement they so desperately need. Her efforts create a genuine and lasting impact, and I feel immensely grateful to have been part of this transformative journey.

— Vanessa Mounsey, Alice Springs Teacher and Community service worker.

“We liked being together on Country, it gave us a place where us women and kids could sit down, share food, and just be with each other in a good way. We valued having that space to teach our young ones proper way passing knowledge on country, making bush medicine, cooking, stories, and art.”

— Connect & Create participant.

“I had the privilege of working with Ez for two years. Her creativity, compassion, and tireless advocacy for vulnerable members of the community had a powerful and lasting impact on both community members and colleagues."

— Liana Fraser, Waltja staff member.

“One of my good memories is painting at the beginning of the program. I took my painting home to show my family, and it made me proud to share something I created.

— Art Voice Creative Choice participant

“This program brought us closer as friends and family. We laughed, shared stories, and became stronger Kangkuru (sisters). It felt calm, happy, and full of palya (goodness).”
